Skip to content Contact Us September 9, 2026 What is interoperability in health, and where does the Dominican Republic stand? Interoperability means two different health systems understand the same thing when they exchange information about a person. In August 2026 the Dominican Republic placed among the top six of twenty countries at the 5th Regional Digital Health Connectathon and completed 100% of the planned test cases. The next step is already announced: a National Connectathon involving care providers and technology vendors. September 8, 2026 What does a data quality audit measure that coverage and timeliness do not? Coverage says how many facilities reported and timeliness says whether they reported within the deadline. In week 23 of 2025 the Dominican Republic published 89% and 87%. Neither figure says whether what was reported matches what is written in the facility register. That check is what a routine data quality assessment does, and it is done at the facility, not at the center. September 3, 2026 Is the Dominican health system ready to deliver an injection given twice a year? On 14 April 2026 the Dominican Republic joined the Global Fund list of countries introducing lenacapavir for prevention, alongside eleven others. Access, which was the question, now has an answer. The next one is harder: a twice yearly injection requires knowing who received a dose and when the next one is due. September 3, 2026 Why is only one in nine suspected leptospirosis cases confirmed? Through epidemiological week 23 of 2025, the Dominican Republic had accumulated 205 suspected leptospirosis cases and 23 confirmed ones: 11 percent. That distance is not a laboratory failure. It is the journey between a clinician suspecting and a result coming back, and in this disease that journey has consequences. September 3, 2026 Why do pilots that worked still die? Usually because the indicator that proved they worked belonged to the donor and not to the country. In epidemiological week 23 of 2025, the Dominican Republic measured 2,986 facilities and published coverage and timeliness for each of its 40 provincial directorates. A pilot outside that measurement cannot outlive its funding. September 3, 2026 Why do 2,497 Dominican health facilities report communicable disease but not noncommunicable events? Because these are two separate reports with two different scopes. In epidemiological week 23 of 2025, the weekly report on notifiable syndromes and diseases covered 2,986 facilities at every level of care. The noncommunicable events report covered 489, restricted to second and third level facilities with inpatient services. The difference is the first level of care.
